Odisha launches new scheme for Education loan

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched a new scheme for higher education called ‘Kalinga Sikshya Sathi Yojana’.

Under the provisions of the scheme, the state government would provide education loan at only one per cent interest per annum to students undergoing higher education, including management, law, engineering, medicine and others. The state government has earmarked Rs 500 crore from its own resources for the purpose.

Univ of Lincoln UK publishes Excellence Scholarships

UK-based University of Lincoln has announced 5 Academic Excellence Scholarships for the Academic Year 2016-17. These scholarships, which are worth up to £5000, will be awarded on merit basis to five self-funded Indian students with a consistently good academic record who will be enrolling for the full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme offered by the Lincoln Business School.

The one-year MBA programme from University of Lincoln has two enrollment cycles, i.e. September and February. Empathy in Education

Empathy can be termed as a non-cognitive skill, soft skill or social skill. It is a main thing that needs to be included in Education as it builds positive classroom culture, enables the students to strengthen relationship with other students and develops leadership skills.

Empathy means the ability of a person to understand the condition, thoughts and emotions of another person from their perspective (i.e feel the feelings of another by standing in their position). It is a positive psychological and intellectual identification process. Cognitive (empathy by thought), emotional (feel the emotions) and somatic or compassionate (feel the pain and take action) are the types of empathy.
Role of empathy in education:-
In 2012, researchers at McGill University in Montreal found a direct connection between empathy and learning capacity. It is part of social and emotional learning (SEL) as it helps the students to manage emotions, establish relationships and solve life problems.

Cornell University launches Online learning Program

Cornell University strives to stay in step with the Internet’s promotion of educational opportunities with the introduction of WebSeries, eCornell’s latest mechanism for online learning.

The Gurukul system of Education

The Gurukul was a type of school in ancient education system. The gurukul system is an ancient learning method.  Gurukulam has existed since the vedic age. Their main motto is to develop the knowledge and they were highly focused on education. The Gurus train their students with meditations, yogas and other standards.

The students will gather there and learn vedas from their Guru. The students were treated equally irrespective of their social standards. The students were treated as a part of  Guru families. The GuruĂ‚ refers to the master or a teacher. The gurukulam system gained a new tradition known as Guru-shishya tradition. The teacher is called as a Guru and the students are called as Shisyas.
